Digital Cinema Package (DCP)

Here is how this works in practice. DCP mastering for Spanish theatrical and festival distribution is produced at Mediapro Post Barcelona, Telson Madrid. And Apache Digital through DCP-O-Matic and EasyDCP pipelines validated against the technical needs of Spain's major exhibitors. Cinesa (the dominant multiplex chain anchored by the Madrid Heron City, Barcelona Diagonal Mar, and Valencia Bonaire screens plus IMAX-with-laser presentations). Yelmo Cines (the heritage Spanish chain with screens in Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, Sevilla, and Valencia). Cinépolis España (Mexican-owned but operating prestige multiplexes across Madrid, Barcelona, and Málaga), Cinemes Filmax Barcelona.

Here is the short of it. And the heritage independent and art-house circuit including the Filmoteca Española Cine Doré in Madrid. We build SMPTE-compliant packages at 2K and 4K DCI resolution with Interop variants where legacy projectors still need them. Audio masters in Dolby SR-D 5.1 and 7.1 with Dolby Atmos and Auro 11.1 immersive tracks produced for prestige releases and the Cinesa IMAX-with-laser screens. And subtitle deliveries in Castilian Spanish, Catalan, Basque (Euskera), Galician (Galego). And Valencian authored in CineCanvas XML and SMPTE timed-text DCSubtitle as each carrier specifies.

Here is the breakdown. For festival submissions, the Spanish and global festival circuit drives a parallel DCP workflow. San Sebastián Global Film Festival (September — the most prestigious A-list festival in Spain with Concha de Oro competition). Sitges Film Festival (October — the world's top fantasy and genre festival). Málaga Film Festival (March — the dedicated Spanish-language showcase). SEMINCI Valladolid Global Film Week (October — the heritage art-house festival), Festival de Gijón (November). D'A Barcelona (April — auteur and experimental cinema). And the global anchors Cannes (May), Berlinale (February), and Venice (September).

Here is what that looks like on the ground. Each festival publishes a DCP tech-check specs that we produce unencrypted packages against, with picture handles and trailer reels structured to that pattern. For the encrypted commercial release that typically follows festival premiere we create per-screen KDMs scoped to each Cinesa, Yelmo Cines, Cinépolis España. And Cinemes Filmax projector certificate and exhibition window. Every package is validated on a reference cinema server at the mastering site before delivery — confirming load behaviour, audio routing. Multilingual subtitle timing, and CPL integrity. So theatre managers across the Spanish circuit receive their keys without back-and-forth on certificate exchange.
